Fasting is usually done by Muslims. Therefore, it has been commanded in the Qur'an Surah Al-Baqarah verse 183: "O you who believe, fasting is obligatory upon you as have been prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off". So, fasting is an obligation that must be carried out by people of faith. However, one can only claim to have faith, but do not want to be cautious, so he never undergo fasting obligations. In contrast, the pious believer and will certainly undergo fasting with deep sincerity. 

 When fasting in Ramadan, daily tasks must still be done as usual. There is no verse that mentions the fasting person is entitled to relief or delay the work until after the month of Ramadan. Nor was there any verses that mention fasting person must be respected because it was fasting. Someone running fast on their own volition in obedience to the creator (Allah) and to obtain His mercy. Therefore, by Aal-Imran verse 132: "Obey Allah and His Messenger, that ye may be given grace". So, if someone runs fast willingly, without coercion, or undergo fasting is not to be respected, then he will be given the grace by his creator (Allah The Mercyfull God). 

As we all know that fasting is not only carried out during the month of Ramadhan alone, but also on-the-sunnah to fast outside Ramadan, such as fasting Mondays and Thursdays, David fasting, fasting Arafat, and so on. Someone who already want to get married but have not been able to implement it is also recommended to fast. 

 There are many health benefits to be gained when fasting, some of them such as:

1. Fasting helps to remove harmful toxins in the body. Therefore, fasting is often used as a method to cleanse toxins (detoxify) the body naturally. 

2. By fasting, giving time for the body and the digestive system to rest. Thus, the digestive organs such as esophagus, stomach, and intestines to work more optimally when it will start eating food again. 

3. Fasting also helps relieve pain in the joints, for people who suffer from arthritis or arthritis. A study showed an association between improvement in arthritis and increase the ability of neutrophil cells in eradicating the bacteria. Neutrophils is an element that is capable of neutralizing toxins and bacteria that cause inflammation of the joints. 

4. Fasting can treat high blood pressure without any medical treatment. It also lowers blood sugar levels and cholesterol. When fasting, we will automatically consume fewer foods especially those containing sugar, fat, and high cholesterol. It subsequently leading to a decrease in cholesterol levels and blood sugar. If accompanied with a healthy diet at dawn and breaking fast, the benefits will be obtained with more optimal. 

5. Although not very significant, fasting is also helpful for people who want to lose excess weight. By fasting, the body will resist the urge to snack and meal frequency is also reduced. But it must be remembered, the process of weight loss during fasting difficult when breaking occurs if the person is eating more foods high in sugar and calories than vegetables and fruits that contain lots of fiber.
