Latin Name: Rauwolfia serpentina Benth

Simplesia Name: Rau wolfiae Radix, Radix Mustelae.

Habitat: Grows on well drained area at an altitude of 50-300 m above sea level.

Chemical nature: Contains alkaloids, consisting of 3 groups namely strong alkaline: quarterary ammonium compound serpentine, sarpagine and samantine, poor absorption when used by mouth; tertiary amine derivative yohimbine, ajmaline, ajmalicine, tetraphylline and tetraphyllicine; weak alkaline secondary amines reserpine, rescinnamine, deserpidine, raunesine and canescine.

Pharmacological Effects: 
Roots - taste bitter, cold, slightly toxic. Soothing and lowering blood pressure, circulation, relieve pain, fever and heat in the liver, anti-inflammatory. Stems and Leaves - bitter, sweet, cool. Rejecting the wind, lowering blood pressure, blood clots launched.

Description of the plant:
